Hello

I like to think that this profession chose ME, rather than me choosing IT.  My experience in the mental health filed dates back to the 2007-2009 recession when I lost my job as a director for an NBC news station in my hometown of Flagstaff, Arizona. Through connections my wife had as a nurse at Flagstaff Medical Center, I found myself "floating" around various units of the hospital as a Patient Safety Attendant. My journey during that four year-stint,  landed me on the mental health unit working with teens, teaching them video editing skills that I acquired during my undergraduate years at Northern Arizona University. A social worker took notice of my zeal and urged me to go back to school to get my master’s degree in social work, which is what brought me to Colorado.

My background in residential treatment centers, mental health facilities, alternative school settings, and foster care and adoption, put me in touch with some of the most challenging cases, but gave me the experience necessary to develop the interpersonal skillsets that would later serve me in my family, group and couples therapy sessions, as well as the services I provide for diverse inmate populations throughout our state.

More about me

In 2015, while in the Philippines with my dad and three brothers, I injured myself during a cliff jumping incident which resulted in the daily experience of pervasive symptoms associated with Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI). At the recommendation by my neurologist (who was honoring my pursuit for holistic treatment options), I found neurofeedback, which led to a personal and professional journey that would ultimately change the way I do life and in turn, the way I approach therapy.

Nothing brings me more joy than to watch people transform their lives for the better. My experience has taught me that ANY circumstance, no matter how antagonistic, can be overcome with a mindset that FIRST, acknowledges and accepts the reality of the situation for what it is; SECOND, approaches it with the TLC that has been withheld for so long (We can be so judgmental towards ourselves); and FINALLY, identifies a set of values worth fighting for no matter the continued challenges. I am honored to be where I am, doing what I do. For me, it is not a job but an answer to a calling. Mind Reneural exists for the committed action of transforming the city of Colorado Springs and our surrounding communities, the ONLY way that the late Mother Theresa suggested is ever possible: “…person to person”.
